Privacy Policy for Remember When

Remember When is a puzzle app built for people living with memory loss, using photos and voice recordings chosen by a family member or caregiver ("the helper"). This page explains what information the app handles and, just as importantly, what it doesn't.

The short version

Everything you add to Remember When — photos, voice recordings, names, and how the puzzles are going — stays on the device it's installed on. Nothing is uploaded, backed up to the cloud, analyzed, sold, or shared with anyone, including us. There are no accounts, no sign-in, and no ads.

Information the app stores

All of the following is entered by the helper and stored only in the app's local storage on the device:

• Photos chosen from the device's photo library, used to build each puzzle.
• Voice recordings made through the device's microphone, played back alongside each photo.
• Names — the player's name and the helper's name or relationship to them, used to personalize greetings.
• Play activity — how many pieces were placed correctly, how long a sitting took, and whether a puzzle was finished. This is used only to quietly adjust puzzle difficulty and to show the helper a simple summary of how sessions are going.
• Settings such as what hour pacing should slow down in the afternoon or evening.

None of this leaves the device. The app has no server of its own, and doesn't send this information anywhere over the internet.

Permissions the app requests, and why

• Microphone — only used when the helper records a voice clip to go with a photo. Recording only happens when the helper explicitly starts it.
• Photo library — only used so the helper can pick which photos appear in the puzzle. The app doesn't browse or access any photos beyond the ones the helper actively selects.

Backups and device transfers

Remember When explicitly opts out of Android's automatic cloud backup, so the personal photos, recordings, and session data it stores are not copied to a Google account backup. Data added to the app stays local to that specific device.

Analytics, advertising, and third parties

The app does not include any analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting software, and does not share data with any third party. The only network activity the app itself performs is downloading the app and its updates through the Google Play Store, which is governed by Google's own privacy policy, not this one.

Deleting your information

A helper can remove a photo (and its recording) at any time from within the app by replacing it. Uninstalling the app removes everything the app has stored on that device, since nothing exists anywhere else.

Children's privacy

Remember When is a tool for family caregivers and is not directed at children. It is not knowingly used to collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version of the app adds an optional cloud-sync feature — this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will reflect it.
